Would you like to be more involved at Avery? We need you! There are many committees that you can work with to help plan and coordinate PTA programs and activities for the benefit of all our children. Have a flare for the arts? Join our Reflections or Fine Arts committees. Are you a parent who works outside of the home? Help bridge PTA activities for parents who may want to help in non-traditional ways. Whatever your niche, we have a committee for you!

General Volunteer
Chair: Erica Reese Willing to help out in any way you can but not exact sure where? When a general call goes out, you’ll have the opportunity to see if the current request is something that you’re interested or able to assist with. |
Copy Team
Chair: Erica Reese An important tool to help our teachers. Just 30 to 60 minutes once a week making any copies that your teacher needs…it also, gives you the opportunity to see what’s coming up for the class. |
Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl
Chair: Kristi Eno Volunteers support the teacher sponsor as she leads the Reading Bowl team. Activities will include event promotion, preparation and other assistance. |
Hospitality
Chair: Needed! The front office needs assistance in helping to coordinate and schedule volunteers for the various events occurring throughout the year in our building. |
Math Superstars
Chair: Tasha Merrill More than 200 Avery Cubs participate in this program annually to help improve their math scores. Volunteers are needed to help grade papers, return papers to classrooms, keep records of participation and organize a small, end of year party. |
Media Center Volunteers
Chair: Sandy Kreh PTA coordinates the scores of volunteers needed to help Mrs. Blakey in the Media Center throughout the year. Your level of involvement depends on your availability – no matter how big or small, whether one time or every week! Chair: Julie Coulter Volunteers are need to input membership data, distribute membership cards, and plan membership drives. |
Reflections
Chair: Jen Pollard The arts, our Avery Cubs, and PTAs across Georgia and our nation come together for this celebration of the arts. Students submit artwork, poetry, musical performances, and more in this national PTA organized competition. Help at Avery is needed to promote the program, as well as to gather the entries and organize the awards ceremony in their honor. Additionally, to help facilitate any award-winning entries as they progress through state and national competitions. |
Spiritwear Chair: Carrie GilliamWe could use a few people to organize, collect and distribute spiritwear orders, as well as help determine upcoming designs. |
Staff Appreciation Chair: Erica ReeseThroughout the year, with lunches, little surprises, and pick-me-ups, this committee provides encouragement, support, and thanks to all of the Avery staff. A great group to volunteer with if you would like to help from home and/or a monthly basis. |
Trash for Cash
Chairs: Mary Long and Heather Smith Can you help cut or count Box Tops? Promote Shoparoo and Smile Amazon? We need your help! Each year, Avery makes thousands of dollars in “free money” by utilizing these programs. |

Community Outreach
Chair: Laura Pope Volunteers are needed to organize various ways to help in our community, such as food and clothing drives, blood donation drives, etc. We will also provide support to cheer on our friends at Special Olympics. |
Family Bingo Night Chair: Beth HoltSpring into action and help us organize this most-popular event, usually scheduled between February and April. This is a favorite family fun night at Avery! This will include lots of new surprises and more ways to win! Help support our Cubs while having an evening full of laughs, prizes, and yummy food! Many volunteers are needed for this event to be a success. |
Family Movie Night Chair: Janna Miller-SandersOur traditional “Welcome Back to School” event for all Avery families! Volunteers are needed in advance to help organize; but also on the night of to assist with various tasks – some Dads to help with set-up would be GREATLY appreciated! |
Father/Daughter Dance Chair: Danielle HeltonThis annual event usually takes place sometime between February and April. Volunteers can sign up to help organize in advance and/or to help on the night of the event. This is one of the largest events we hold each year, taking a couple of days just to hang decorations! |
Fine Arts Chairs: Erica ReeseStaff Liaison: Kay Martin Avery is a wonderful building made even more beautiful with our support of the Fine Arts. Work with this group to bring the students’ artwork alive throughout the building as well as help to showcase the Arts throughout the year in a variety of creative ways, including an evening STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math) celebration usually in November. |
Teacher Grants Chair: Kristy DrakeAnnually Avery PTA can give up to thousands of dollars to teachers for needed classroom materials. Volunteers are needed to promote the program and review grant requests, which are written by teachers. |
Variety Show

Vision & Hearing Screenings Chair: Tasha SmithEvery year, PTA organizes dozens of volunteers to help screen students for hearing and vision during the fall. This is one of the most rewarding tasks of PTA – knowing that we’re helping to make sure a child can see or hear at school! |
